We Buy Gold and Silver in Bristol
BristolSouth West
We buy gold and silver by appointment at Castlemead on Lower Castle Street in Bristol, priced from the live market and paid the same day, by bank transfer or in cash, once we have checked your ID. Appointments are easy to arrange, usually the same week, and there is no minimum for gold. Bring in one broken chain or a whole drawer of it, and you will get a weighed, tested figure while you wait. Because we are watch and jewellery specialists first, everything is looked at properly rather than simply weighed.
What we take
- Scrap and broken jewellery, single earrings, snapped chains, bent rings and clasps
- Gold chains, bracelets, bangles, rings and pendants of any age
- Sovereigns, Krugerrands, Britannias and other bullion coins
- Sterling silverware, cutlery canteens, trays, candlesticks and tea services
- Silver jewellery and coins, from 100g upwards
- Dental gold, gold cases from scrap watches and old wedding bands
How the pricing works
It is simple arithmetic, and we show you every step. We test the metal, confirm the carat, weigh it on trade scales in front of you, then price it against the live market at that moment. Silver is bought from 100g upwards. Because the market moves through the day, so does the figure, which is why we quote and pay on the day rather than holding a price open for a week.
You can work out roughly where you stand before you leave the house using our gold calculator. Put in the weight and the carat, and it does the same sum we do in person using the current rate.
Hallmarks and what they mean
Most British pieces are hallmarked, and the number is the purity in parts per thousand. If you cannot find a mark, bring it in anyway, as we test rather than guess.
- Gold: 375 is 9ct, 585 is 14ct, 750 is 18ct, 916 is 22ct and 999 is fine gold
- Silver: 800 is continental, 925 is sterling, 958 is Britannia and 999 is fine silver
- Older items may carry a lion passant for sterling or a crown and carat number for gold
- Foreign pieces often use different marks, and plenty of good Italian and Middle Eastern gold is unmarked
Book a time at Suite 616, Castlemead, Lower Castle Street, Bristol BS1 3AG, and bring photo ID (passport or driving licence). You need to be 18 or over and the owner of the items. Try the calculator first, then bring the lot in for a firm figure, paid the same day once we have checked your ID. If you have a watch to sell alongside the gold, our selling page explains how that side works.
